Out of the 230 elected representatives in Madhya Pradesh, a staggering 205 MLAs boast assets in crores, according to the Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) report. This is a significant rise from 187 crorepati MLAs in 2018, showcasing an increasing trend over five years.
The top spot on this list is secured by BJP’s Chaitanya Kashyap from Ratlam city, declaring assets of Rs 296 crore. Following closely, Sanjay Satyendra Pathak of the BJP from Vijayraghavgarh stands at the second position with assets worth Rs 242 crore. The third spot is claimed by State Congress President Kamal Nath, whose declared assets exceed Rs 134 crore.

The report highlights that among these affluent MLAs, 144 belong to the BJP, while 61 hail from the Congress party. Interestingly, the candidate with the least assets among the newly elected MLAs is Kamlesh Dodiyar from the Bharat Adivasi Party, reporting assets worth Rs 18 lakh. Additionally, BJP’s Santosh Varkade and Kanchan Mukesh Tanve rank among the candidates with the lowest assets, with total holdings of Rs 25 lakh and Rs 26 lakh, respectively.

In terms of liabilities, former BJP minister Surendra Patwa (Bhojpur) leads the list with a debt of Rs 57 crore, followed by Congress’s Dinesh Jain (Mahidpur) with a loan of Rs 30 crore and BJP’s Bhupendra Singh (Khurai) with Rs 23 crore in liabilities.
Breaking down the wealth distribution, the report indicates that 102 MLAs possess assets worth Rs 5 crore and above, 71 MLAs declare assets between Rs 2 crore and Rs 5 crore, and 48 MLAs possess assets ranging from Rs 50 lakh to Rs 2 crore. Nine elected MLAs hold assets below Rs 50 lakh. The average asset value of the newly elected MLAs is Rs 11.77 crore, showing a notable increase from Rs 10.17 crore in 2018.
The assembly elections resulted in a significant victory for the BJP, securing 163 seats compared to Congress’s 66. This marked a shift from the 2018 elections, where BJP secured 109 seats while Congress won 114. However, following Jyotiraditya Scindia’s rebellion in 2020, the Congress government in the state collapsed.
