A tragic incident unfolded in Karnataka as a police constable’s suspicions regarding his wife’s fidelity led to a horrifying crime. Kishore D, a 32-year-old constable attached to Chamarajanagar East police station, lost his temper after his wife, Prathiba, failed to respond to his repeated phone calls. She had recently given birth to a baby boy at her parental home in Kalathur village near Hoskote. The couple had been married for less than a year.
Kishore’s doubts about Prathiba’s character had been growing, leading him to regularly check her messages and call records. He would question the intentions of anyone who contacted her and accused her of being too close to her male college friends. On the fateful evening, their conversation took a turn for the worse. Kishore verbally abused her over the phone, causing Prathiba to cry.
Prathiba’s mother, Venkatalakshmamma, intervened and disconnected the call, concerned about the impact of her daughter’s distress on the newborn baby. She advised Prathiba not to respond to her husband’s calls. However, Kishore’s anger only escalated.
The next morning, Prathiba was shocked to discover that Kishore had called her 150 times. She promptly informed her parents about the relentless and troubling calls.
Kishore, unable to contain his anger and suspicion, made a fateful decision. He traveled over 230km from Chamarajanagar town to Prathiba’s parental home. On arrival, he consumed a lethal dose of insecticide and then entered the house.

Kishore’s actions took a sinister turn as he strangled Prathiba to death using a dupatta while she was on the first floor of the house. Her mother, Venkatalakshmamma, had initially gone to the terrace but returned to find the door locked from the inside. She knocked on the door, receiving no response. Realizing the grave danger, she continued to knock, pleading with Kishore to open the door. After a tense 15 minutes, Kishore finally unlocked the door and confessed to the shocking crime, stating, “Kondu bitte avalna, kondu bitte (I killed her, I killed her).”
Afterward, Kishore reportedly fled the scene. Venkatalakshamma informed the authorities about the terrible incident, leading to a case of murder being registered against Kishore based on a complaint filed by Prathiba’s father, Subramani.
