An 11-year-old boy tragically passed away after being hit by a cricket ball while playing with friends in Pune’s Lohegaon area on Thursday. Shaurya Kalidas Khandve, the victim, had aspirations of becoming a wrestler, as shared by his family members.
The occurrence happened at approximately 9 pm on May 2 at the Jagatguru Sports Academy Ground in Lohegaon. Shaurya, affectionately known as Shambhu among his loved ones, leaves behind his parents and an older brother. A case of accidental death was filed on May 4 at the Vimantal police station regarding the incident.
Preliminary details indicate that Shaurya was participating in a cricket game with friends at the Jagatguru Sports Academy Ground, which offers night playing amenities. While Shaurya was bowling, he was hit by the ball in his private area, causing him to collapse. He was swiftly taken to a nearby private hospital, where medical professionals declared him deceased, as explained by an officer from the Vimantal police station.

Assistant Inspector Sachin Dhamane, leading the investigation, stated that they have registered a case of accidental death and initiated an inquiry. They plan to review the autopsy report and interview the players present at the scene.
Rameshwar Poul, a relative of Shaurya, mentioned that Shaurya, a sixth-grade student, had a strong enthusiasm for sports and was well-connected with a wide circle of friends.
