Coronavirus: Wearing mask can be harmful for some people, know why

New Delhi: More than 50 lakh infections and 320, 000 fatalities worldwide, coronavirus has emerged as the biggest threat to human race in past few months.

People all over the world are asked to take as much precautionary measures as they can and wearing mask remains the top most. Many countries have even made it compulsory to wear a mask and strict actions are being taken against people stepping out without a mask.

But now experts have revealed that wearing mask can be harmful for some people. According to an expert from Britain, people suffering with asthma and other lung diseases can have dangerous effect by wearing a mask. These people can find it difficult to breathe, resulting in further sickness.

Britain itself have released guidelines regarding wearing masks .

Last week, Britain appealed its citizen to wear a mask in crowded places and in situations where it becomes impossible to practice social distancing. However, after this study by the experts, it has been proven that wearing a mask for longer duration can be harmful for people suffering from asthma and lung diseases.

Now after experts’ advice, Britain has released new guidelines.

The guideline states that patients with asthma, COPD, cystic fibrosis, chronic bronchitis and lung cancer are exempted from wearing mask.

How are masks effective?

It is thought that masks are more effective in helping to stop someone who is infected with Covid-19 from passing it on to others, than they are in preventing someone from catching the virus.

They could also help stop the spread of the virus by someone who is asymptomatic and therefore may not be self-isolating.
