New Delhi: As many as 185 outsider people have bought land in Jammu and Kashmir in the last three years, the government informed in Rajya Sabha. 

Nityanand Rai, union minister for the state for home, said that as per information no outsiders have bought land in Ladakh union territory. 

“As per the information given by the government of Jammu and Kashmir, a total of 185 people from outside the newly created Union Territory have bought land during 2020, 2021 and 2022,” he said in a written reply.

According to the minister,  1 person bought land in 2020, 57 outsiders bought land in 2021 and 127 people have bought land in 2022. 

In August 2019, Articles 370 and 35A, which gave special status to J&K, were abrogated by the Union government, and the erstwhile state was bifurcated into two UTs – Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. 

Following the Constitutional Change in October 2020, Home Ministry allowed people from outside Jammu and Kashmir to buy land.
