Popular singer Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in a scuba diving accident. The sudden demise came as a big shock to his fans and loved ones, who mourned his loss. On Tuesday, the late singer was laid to rest in Kamarkuchi NC village, near Guwahati. Thousands of fans gathered to pay their last respects.
Zubeen’s popular song ‘Mayabini Ratir Buku’ was played at the cremation site, which made his wife, Garima Saikia Garg, extremely emotional.

Meanwhile, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also paid tribute to Zubeen and shared the video from the cremation site. He wrote, “The final goodbye to the legend, #BelovedZubeen. You will always be alive in our hearts and thoughts.”

The late singer’s second post-mortem was conducted in Assam, and CM Sarma revealed that the Assam government granted permission due to the demands raised on social media and to ensure transparency in the case. “A new demand has cropped up on social media on Tuesday seeking another post-mortem of Garg’s body in Assam. In view of that and after taking consent of his family, the state government has decided to conduct another post-mortem on Garg’s body in Guwahati on Tuesday,” Sarma said.
Zubeen passed away on September 19. The news of his death was confirmed by a representative of the North East India Festival in Singapore. While speaking to NDTV, Anuj Kumar Boruah, the representative of North East India Festival, said, “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Zubeen Garg’s passing. While scuba diving, he experienced breathing difficulties and was immediately given CPR before being rushed to Singapore General Hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was declared deceased in the ICU around 2.30 pm IST.”
He started his career as a professional singer in 1992 and released his debut album ‘Anamika’. He later recorded his first songs, ‘Tumi Junu Pariba Hun’ and ‘Tumi Junaki Hubakh’ in 1993. He released his first bihu album, Ujan Piriti, before moving to Mumbai in 1995. He got his big break through with the song ‘Ya Ali’ from the movie ‘Gangster’ in 2006.
