Popular singer Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore. The sudden demise came as a big shock to his fans and loved ones, who are currently mourning his loss. His untimely death has also raised many questions, leading to an investigation. Assam Police’s Special Investigating Team conducted a raid at Northeast India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta’s house.
Shyamkanu Mahanta defended himself in a video posted on Facebook and said that his name has been dragged to grab TRP. He further shared that the late singer was staying at the five-star Pan Pacific Hotel in Singapore. He said that the accusations against him are without any evidence.
In another development in the case, musician Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, who was present during Zubeen’s yacht trip, has reportedly been arrested. The officials have not disclosed the nature of the allegations against him or whether formal charges will follow.
Amid the investigation, Zubeen’s wife, Garima, earlier said that the singer died after suffering a seizure while swimming.
The late singer’s first post-mortem was conducted in Singapore, and the second post-mortem was done in Assam. CM Himanta Biswa Sarma revealed that the Assam government granted permission due to the demands raised on social media and to ensure transparency in the case. “A new demand has cropped up on social media on Tuesday seeking another post-mortem of Garg’s body in Assam. In view of that and after taking consent of his family, the state government has decided to conduct another post-mortem on Garg’s body in Guwahati on Tuesday,” Sarma said.
The news of his death was confirmed by a representative of the North East India Festival in Singapore. While speaking to NDTV, Anuj Kumar Boruah, the representative of North East India Festival, said, “It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Zubeen Garg’s passing.
