Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19, 2025, in Singapore. His sudden demise has left his fans and the Indian music industry in grief. Earlier, it was reported that Zubeen died in a scuba diving accident, but the investigation by the Singapore police declared that the singer passed away due to drowning.

According to The Times of India, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, Zubeen’s friend and bandmate, alleged that manager Siddharth Sharma and festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta poisoned the singer and ‘deliberately chose a foreign venue to conceal their conspiracy’. A new report submitted by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) reportedly mentioned that Sharma asked Goswami not to share any yacht video with anyone.

He reportedly claimed that Zubeen was gasping for breath and also frothing at the mouth and nose during his final moments. Goswami also said that the late singer’s accidental drowning is highly unlikely as he was an expert swimmer.

What CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Said:

Meanwhile, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma warned people not to spread false information about the investigation. He said, “Some people have been seen spreading misinformation and abusing Zubeen Garg’s sudden death for political gain. Some people are trying to disturb Assam with photoshop edited photos to defame the Assam government. These guys are definitely not true fans of Zubeen Garg, they are somewhat criminals.”

Assam police also warned of strict actions against people circulating a fake AI-generated image of Mahanta Sharma, who was seen smiling in the fake photo despite being arrested.

The official page of CID Assam wrote, “Assam police is strictly monitoring the social media platforms. If anyone is found spreading “fake AI generated pics or fake news” strict legal action will be initiated against them.”

As per recent reports, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax (I-T) Department are also expected to join the Assam police in the investigation of alleged financial crimes by Shyamkanu Mahanta.
