Former Dangal actor Zaira Wasim has strongly condemned Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over an incident in which he was seen pulling a woman’s hijab during a public appointment ceremony in Patna. Calling the act “infuriating,” Zaira demanded an unconditional apology, stating that a woman’s dignity and modesty cannot be treated casually especially on a public platform.
Taking to X, Zaira expressed her anger as a Muslim woman witnessing another woman’s niqab being removed without consent. She wrote, “A woman’s dignity and modesty are not props to toy with. Least of all on a public stage. As a Muslim woman, watching another woman’s niqab being pulled at so casually, accompanied by that nonchalant smile, was so infuriating,” Zaira wrote on X on Monday night. “Power does not grant permission to violate boundaries. @NitishKumar owes that woman an unconditional apology.”

What exactly happened at the event?
The incident took place at Samvad, the Chief Minister’s secretariat, during a ceremony where appointment letters were being handed over to more than 1,000 newly appointed AYUSH doctors. When Nusrat Parveen came on stage wearing a hijab to receive her letter, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar appeared unhappy and questioned her attire. He then leaned forward from the stage and pulled the veil away from her face.
The moment was recorded on camera and soon spread widely on social media. The young doctor looked visibly shocked and was quickly escorted away by an official, while Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary was seen trying to stop Nitish Kumar by tugging at his arm.
