Akshaye Khanna has found a new popularity among Gen Zs due to Dhurandhar. For the unversed, his character is based on Rehman Dakait, who was a Pakistani gangster based in Karachi’s Lyari neighbourhood who formed the Peoples’ Aman Committee.
Casting director Mukesh Chhabra revealed that at least 50-60 actors were considered for Rehman Dakait’s part but he chose Akshaye Khanna.
While speaking to PTI, he shared, “Initially, we also had OTT actors. For Rehman Dakait, I had a list of 50-60 actors from different backgrounds, including actors from the South film industry. However, we ultimately chose actor Akshaye Khanna.”
“People had high expectations for this film. We wanted to deliver the best. We cast people who fit the roles. We took a lot of time for each casting. It took a year and a half. We considered whether Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, or Akshaye Khanna would be right. Aditya Dhar and I would sit and discuss this for two to four hours every day,” he added.
The movie will return with a sequel in March 2026. It has already crossed Rs 400 crore at the box office in India.
