Eighteen years after the release of Dostana in 2008, Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions is all set to return with a sequel to the cult comedy and will feature Vikrant Massey and Lakshya in lead roles.
According to sources close to the development the project has been in the works for some time, Pinkvilla quoted the insider, “Dostana 2 has been in development at Dharma for a while, and the makers have cracked a perfect script that can carry the franchise forward in a progressive manner. Dostana 2 will feature Vikrant Massey with Lakshya, and will mark the launch pad of a debutant as the female lead. The makers are aiming to take the film on floors in January 2026, and release in the end of next year.”
Addressing the circulating rumors about an OTT release, the makers have confirmed that Dostana 2 is being developed as a theatrical film, The source added, “Dostana 2 is being conceptualized as a theatrical film, with music, comedy, romance, and drama. Talks are on with filmmakers, and a director will be locked in a fortnight.”
On the work front, Vikrant Massey, is currently wrapping up the shoor for the Sri Sri Ravishankar biopic and Don 3. He will begin work on Dostana 2 by the end of 2025.
Meanwhile, Dharma Productions is busy with several other projects including, Dhadak 2 and Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsikumari which is set to hit the theaters in 2026, while “Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri” and “Nagzilla” are expected to begin production later this year.
Dostana is a 2008 romantic comedy film written and directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar under Dharma Productions. The film stars Abhishek Bachchan, John Abraham, and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles.
