Sunjay Kapur’s sudden death left his family and close ones in a state of shock. But just months after his death, his name is back in the news and this time because of a legal dispute over his Rs 30,000 crore fortune.
Sunjay’s children from his second wife, actress Karisma Kapoor, have moved the Delhi High Court. They allege that his third wife, Priya Sachdev, forged his will. The inheritance battle has since intensified, with claims and counter allegations coming from both sides. Interestingly, Sunjay’s first wife, Nandita Mahtani, is completely missing from the legal drama and there’s a reason for it.
Who is Nandita Mahtani?
Born in 1976, Nandita Mahtani is a well known fashion designer. She has styled several celebrities including Virat Kohli, Katrina Kaif and Gauri Khan. In 2024, she walked the ramp as a showstopper for Karan Johar, which further strengthened her presence in the fashion world.
She married Sunjay in 1996, but the couple got divorced in 2000. After this, her name was linked with Ranbir Kapoor, who reports say had a crush on her. She was also in a long-term relationship with Dino Morea, with whom she co-founded a company called “Playground”. Later she got engaged to actor Vidyut Jamwal. However, the relationship broke up after two years in 2023.
Why is she not involved in a property dispute?
Nandita married Sunjay in 1996 but they divorced in 2000. Most importantly, she and Sunjay did not have any children, so she has no legal stake in the ongoing inheritance dispute. This is why her name did not come up in the courtroom battle.
On the other hand, Karisma and Sunjay have two children Samaira and Kian who are now contesting Priya Sachdev’s claims. Priya and Sunjay also have a son Azaarius Kapoor. Priya also co-parents her daughter Safira Chadha from her first marriage.
