Meanwhile, giving updates about ‘Singh Is Kinng 2’, producer Shailendra Singh told Midday, “I had gifted the title to Akshay Kumar, and they tried to make part two, but I asked them to return the title as I wanted to make a sequel. After 12 years of going back and forth with Vipul and Akshay, I finally got the title three years ago. I have started the process of [making] Singh Is Kinng 2. I will begin production from October 2025 so that I can release it in 2026.”
Talking about the cast, he added, “My first choice is Ranveer Singh. We reached out to his manager on Saturday. His energy, cheekiness and fun fit the character. Also, Ranveer has never played a Sardar before. Now the time is right for both Singhs, Ranveer and Shailendra, to create magic. If Ranveer doesn’t work out, then Diljit [Dosanjh] is my next choice.”
Later, Akshay Kumar’s legal team revealed that the actor is the co-owner of the film and that any person does not have the right to produce prequels, sequels or franchises. The statement reads, “Mr. Akshay Kumar is the co-owner of the film, Singh is Kinng (“Film”) and all the rights, title, interest, etc. of the Film. Any assertions, statements, claims, etc., made by Mr. Shailendra Singh, in the article published in the newspaper, Mid-day on 11th November, 2024, with respect to the Film, are entirely false and untrue. Neither does Mr. Shailendra Singh nor does any other person have any right to produce any prequels or sequels or franchise, etc. to the Film.”
Apart from Akshay Kumar, ‘Singh is Kinng’ also starred Katrina Kaif, Om Puri, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia, Javed Jaffrey, Sonu Sood, and Sudhanshu Pandey.
