The Chennai promotional event for Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 has been cancelled following the tragic stampede at Vijay’s rally in Karur that killed 41 people.

Rishab Shetty’s upcoming movie Kantara Chapter 1 was scheduled for a promotional event in Chennai on 30 September, but the makers have now cancelled the event following the tragic stampede at actor-politician Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, which claimed at least 41 lives.

Hombale Films, the production house behind the film, shared a statement on Instagram expressing solidarity with the victims, “In view of the recent unfortunate incident, we have decided to cancel our Kantara Chapter 1 promotional event scheduled in Chennai tomorrow. We believe this is a time for reflection and solidarity with those affected. Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families impacted. We are grateful for your understanding and support, and we look forward to meeting our audience in Tamil Nadu at a more appropriate time.”

The stampede happened at Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam rally, when a large crowd rushed toward the barricades to see the actor-politician, causing chaos and many injuries. Vijay expressed his sorrow over the tragedy and announced Rs 20 lakh for each family of the deceased and Rs 2 lakh for each injured person.

About Kantara Chapter 1

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, the prequel explores the mythological origins of the story told in Kantara. Set ten centuries before the events of the first film, it features Shetty in a new role alongside Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah.

It will hit theatres on 2 October coinciding with Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari starring Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf.
