Comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi’s much-awaited show in Lucknow, scheduled for February 15, has been cancelled, leaving fans disappointed. The event, which had two shows planned for 3 PM and 7 PM at the Indira Gandhi Pratisthan, was expected to draw a large crowd. However, the cancellation came as a surprise, especially given the growing buzz around the comedian’s performance.
What Is The Reason Behind The Cancellation
The cancellation follows a letter from the Vice-Chairperson of the Uttar Pradesh State Women’s Commission, Aparna Yadav, to DGP Prashant Kumar. In her letter, Yadav raised concerns over the language used in Bassi’s previous shows. After reviewing his performances on YouTube, she noted the use of “indecent words” (apshabd) and stressed the importance of avoiding offensive language in public events.
The letter further urged the DGP to ensure that no ‘indecent words or undignified comments’ about women would be made during Bassi’s show. In fact, it was recommended that similar comedy events should not only adhere to respectful language but also face cancellation if found inappropriate. This move comes in the response of public outrage over Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial remarks on Samay Raina’s show India’s Got Latent, which further fuelled the probe of comedy events across the state.

Impact Of Ranveer Allahbadia’s Controversial Remarks
Although Bassi was not involved in the controversial incident, the public backlash surrounding Ranveer Allahbadia’s comments has led to increased vigilance over stand-up shows. The incident appears to have played a role in the heightened scrutiny of comedy performances, with authorities now applying stricter regulations on content served to the audience.
