Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty had been struggling with acute liver ailments for some time. On February 8, he was airlifted from Bhubaneswar to Delhi for advanced medical treatment. Despite efforts to improve his health, the legendary actor breathed his last breath at a private hospital in the national capital, leaving the entire Odia industry in shock.
Who Was Uttam Mohanty?
Mohanty made his acting debut in 1977 with the Odia film Abhimaan and quickly became one of the most celebrated actors in the industry. His natural screen presence and versatile performances made him a household name. Over the years, he appeared in over 130 Odia films, with some of his most iconic roles in Nijhum Ratira Sathi (1979) and Phula Chandana (1982).

Venturing Beyond Odia Films
Apart from his success in Odia cinema, Mohanty also explored opportunities in other film industries. He acted in nearly 30 Bengali films and even appeared in a Hindi movie, Naya Zaher. His versatility extended to television, where he played significant roles in serials like Sara Akasha, further cementing his legacy in the entertainment world.
