Who Was Guruprasad? Kannada Director Who Allegedly Died By Suicide

Kannada director Guruprasad was found dead in his apartment. He was 52.

The untimely demise of popular Kannada filmmaker Guruprasad has shocked his fans and the film industry. He was allegedly found dead in his apartment by the police after some neighbours reportedly called them due to a foul smell. Fans are mourning the loss of the late director, who gave hit and memorable movies in his career.

Who Was Guruprasad? 

Born in 1972 in Bengaluru, Guruprasad was a well-known face in the Kannada film industry. He made his dream debut as a director in 2006 with the movie ‘Mata’. Despite being new in the game, Guruprasad rose to fame with ‘Mata’ as the movie became a massive hit and is now considered a cult classic.

He later teamed up with Jaggesh again in 2009 for the movie ‘Eddelu Manjunatha’. This movie also became a massive commercial hit along with getting critical success. Guruprasad won the Best Screenplay at the Karnataka State Film Awards for ‘Eddelu Manjunatha’ and later won Best Director at the Filmfare Awards South. 

Guruprasad returned as a director in 2013 with ‘Director’s Special’. He faced a setback in his career with his 2017 movie ‘Eradane Sala’, which was reportedly stuck in development hell for years. In 2024, he directed ‘Ranganayaka’ but the movie was both a critical and commercial failure.

He was reportedly working on his next directorial ‘Ademaa’.

About Guruprasad’s Death: 

Guruprasad was reportedly found hanging from a ceiling fan by the police. Neighbours had called the police due to a foul smell allegedly coming from his apartment. His body was reportedly found in a decomposed state in his apartment in Madanayakanahalli, Bengaluru.
