Kesari Chapter 2 Trailer Launch: Akshay Kumar launched the trailer of Kesari Chapter 2, which will showcase another story of the tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He will play the role of C Sankaran Nair, who was a lawyer and also served as president of the 1897 Indian National Congress. Even though Akshay is playing him in the film, not much has been known about C Sankaran Nair and his life.
Who Was C Sankaran Nair?
His full name is ‘Chettur Sankaran Nair‘, who has played a pivotal role for India in the pre-independence era. He reportedly began his career as a lawyer in 1880 in the High Court of Madras. Later, he was appointed as a member of the committee for an enquiry into the district of Malabar. He served as the Advocate-General to the Government and an Acting Judge till 1908 and became a permanent Judge in the High Court of Madras till 1915.
As per reports, he became a Companion of the Indian Empire by the King-Emperor in 1904 and was knighted by 1912. He then resigned from the Viceroy’s Council after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre on April 13, 1919.
Kesari Chapter 2 is based the book ‘The Case That Shook The Empire’, written by written by Raghu Palat, who is also the great-grandson of C Sankaran Nair. At the trailer launch, Raghu Palat became emotional on stage and praised everyone in the team. While adressing the media, he said, “This film is every emotional to me because it brought the struggle he went to life.” He further expressed his gratitude Karan Johar, Akshay Kumar and director Karan Singh Tyagi for making Kesari Chapter 2.
Kesari Chapter 2 also stars R Madhavan and Ananya Panday in the lead roles. Ananya will also be seen as a lawyer, whereas, R Madhavan will lock horns with Akshay in this film. Directed by the debutant Karan Singh Tyagi, the movie will release on April 18, 2025.
