At a time when Indian films are changing because of streaming platforms and new audience habits, one business leader has found a smart balance between theatres and OTT. Instead of making them compete, she made both work together, which has helped her become one of the most important people in the industry.
She is Jyoti Deshpande, President of Jio Studios.

The year 2024 was very important for Jio Studios. Under her leadership, the studio grew fast and became India’s biggest film studio in terms of reach and impact. She is known for taking smart decisions, managing risks well, and understanding what audiences like.

A strong example of this approach is Dhurandhar, made with Aditya Dhar and Lokesh Dhar’s B62 Studios. Releasing the film in two parts helped reduce risk and kept viewers interested for a longer time. This turned Dhurandhar into a successful franchise, not just one film.
With Dhurandhar, Jio Studios also handled film distribution for the first time. This gave the studio more control over how the film reached theatres. The spy thriller has had a massive second week, taking its worldwide collection past Rs 500 crore, with around Rs 450 crore coming from India alone. With strong momentum still going, the film is now aiming for the rare Rs 1,000 crore global mark.
Jio Studios does not focus only on big action films. In 2024, it released different kinds of films like Stree 2, Article 370, Shaitaan, and Missing Ladies. Missing Ladies was especially successful. It received praise in India and abroad, became India’s official Oscar entry, and won many awards.
On OTT platforms, Jio Studios is also doing very well. In 2025, it has already released more than 11 films on platforms like ZEE5 and Netflix.
