Bengali singer Lagnajita Chakraborty has alleged that she was abused and nearly assaulted during a school event in West Bengal. After the incident, she filed an official complaint against the man, who has been identified as Mehboob Mallick. Know the details about the incident and about Lagnajita Chakraborty.
Who is Lagnajita Chakraborty?
Lagnajita Chakraborty is a popular playback singer who has primarily worked in Bengali films. She gained immense popularity after her song ‘Basanto Eshe Geche’ from the movie ‘Chotushkone’. She was honoured with the “Sera Bangali” award in 2015.
Her other popular songs include Odol Bodol, Sokhi Rongo Koto Bol, Aamar Maa, Noor Jahaan, Hridoyer Rong, Kotota Raat, Ekti Golpo Shunio and many more.
She was also seen in the 2014 film ‘Jodi Bolo Hyan’.
About the Incident:
The incident took place at South Point Public School in Purba Medinipur’s Bhagabanpur area in West Bengal. In her complaint, she revealed that the event began at 7:00 pm and continued smoothly for the first 45 minutes. But the disruption happened after she finished singing her seventh song.
“At around 7:45 pm, I finished singing the seventh song on my list. Before moving on to the eighth song, as artists usually do, I was speaking to the audience,” she revealed.
“The seventh song I had just completed was ‘Jago Ma’ from the film Debi Choudhurani, which was released during the last Durga Puja,” she added.
She revealed that a man suddenly rushed onto the stage and attempted to hit her, but was stopped by other people. “After finishing this song, while I was talking to the audience before starting the eighth song, the man suddenly ran onto the stage and came very close to me—almost up to my lips. At that point, 2–3 people stopped him. I do not know who they were,” she wrote in her complaint.
The man allegedly shouted, “There has been enough ‘Jago Ma’; now sing something secular.”
The accused Mehboob Mallik is one of the owners of the school.
