Imani Dia Smith, who was known for playing Young Nala in the Broadway show The Lion King, has died at the age of 25. She was seriously injured in a stabbing incident at her home in Edison, New Jersey, on December 21, 2025. Police arrived after receiving an emergency call and found her with multiple stab wounds.
Imani was taken to the hospital, but she later died from her injuries. Police said an investigation began right away.
Who is Jordan D Jackson-Small?
Her ex-boyfriend, Jordan D. Jackson-Small, a 35-year-old man from Edison, has been arrested in connection with her death. He has been charged with first-degree murder, along with other charges related to child endangerment and illegal possession of a weapon.
Imani’s aunt, Kira Helper, who started a GoFundMe page for the family, told police that Imani and Jordan knew each other. This confirmed that the attack was not random. While officials have not shared full details, reports suggest the stabbing happened during an argument at the home.
Was Jordan the father of Imani’s child?
Imani is survived by her three-year-old son, her parents Monique Rance-Helper and Rawni Helper, and her two younger siblings. Although Jordan Jackson-Small is facing a child endangerment charge, police have not confirmed whether he is the biological father of her son.
The GoFundMe page says that the child was present during the incident but was not hurt. The money raised will help cover funeral costs, counseling, legal expenses, and care for Imani’s son. The fundraiser does not mention who the child’s father is.
More information is expected as the police investigation continues.
