AI-Studio Ghibli has taken over the internet with several people recreating their images in the anime style. For the unversed, this trend is inspired by Studio Ghibli, which is an animation studio and is known for creating hit anime films. But who is behind this viral AI trend? Meet Hayao Miyazaki, who is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli and has created incredible anime movies that have well received by audience worldwide.
Who Is Hayao Miyazaki?
Hayao Miyazaki is the co-founder of Studio Ghibli and also serves as the chairman of the production house. He started his career in 1963 with the tv series ‘Wolf Boy Ken’ and movie ‘Doggie March’ and worked as in between animation artist in these projects.
In 1979, he directed his first anime film ‘The Castle Of Cagliostro’. Later, he directed and wrote several popular anime including ‘Castle In The Sky’, ‘My Neighbor Totoro’, ‘Kiki’s Delivery Service’, ‘Whisper Of The Heart’, ‘Princess Mononoke’, ‘Spirited Away’, ‘Howl’s Moving Castle’, ‘Ponyo’, ‘Arriety’, ‘From Up On Poppy Hill’, The Wind Rises’ and ‘The Boy And The Heron’.
He is considered one of the most successful figure in the animation world and is often compared to Walt Disney. His films ‘Spirited Away’ won Oscars in 2002 and became the first non-English-language animated film to achieve this milestone. He retired in 2013 but came back to make ‘The Boy And The Heron’ in 2023, which also win the Academy Award.
Even though an AI trending based on his work is making waves on the internet, Miayazaki has criticised artificial intellegence many times. In an earlier interview to FarOut Magazine, he shared, “I can’t watch this stuff and find [it] interesting. Whoever creates this stuff has no idea what pain is whatsoever. I am utterly disgusted. If you really want to make creepy stuff, you can go ahead and do it. I would never wish to incorporate this technology into my work at all.”
He also added, “I strongly feel that this is an insult to life itself.”
His last work is The Boy And The Heron, which is streaming on Netflix and became a critical and commercial success. The details about his further work has not been revealed yet.
