Jyoti Chandekar, a veteran actress who mostly worked in the Marathi film industry, passed away on August 16 at around 4 PM. According to media reports, the veteran actress had been undergoing treatment before she breathed her last. She was well known for playing the role of Purna Aji in the show ‘Tharal Tar Mag’.
Her daughter, actress Tejaswini Pandit, confirmed the news and issued an official statement expressing her grief. In her note, Tejaswini mentioned that Jyoti Chandekar’s funeral will take place on August 17 at 11 a.m. at the Navi Peth Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune.
The statement read, “Hello, It is with deep sorrow that we inform you of the passing of our beloved mother and everyone’s cherished senior actress, Mrs. Jyoti Chandekar Pandit, who lived life on her own terms and always greeted the world with a warm smile. She passed away today, August 16th, at the age of 69 after a brief illness.”
The note further added, “Her funeral will be held tomorrow, August 17th, at 11 a.m. at the Navi Peth Vaikunth Crematorium in Pune. With heavy hearts, Tejaswini Pandit, Pornima Pandit, and the entire Chandekar-Pandit family.”

Jyoti Chandekar worked in the showbiz for over five decades, starting her career at the young age of 12. She is known for her popular films like Dholki, Paulavat, Salaam, and Sanjparv. She also appeared in popular TV shows like ‘Tu Saubhagyavati Ho’ and ‘Chhatriwali’.
