Popular TV actor Rupali Ganguly has been under the scanner for a while now. Previously, her Anupamaa co-stars accused her for creating a toxic environment on the show’s set, which forced them to quit. And now, her personal life is being discussed after a post from her step-daughter Esha Verma went viral on social media. In the post, Esha called Rupali “psychotic” and “cruel hearted” and also accused her of destroying their family’s happiness to fulfil her own interests.
How the controversy began?
It all started after a post from 2020 resurfaced online. In a lengthy statement, Esha made shocking revelations about her family and accused Rupali of being the reason for their struggles. She also claimed that Rupali had an extra-marital affair with her father Ashwin K Verma, when he was still married.
The post read, “This is pathetic. Does anyone know the real story of Rupali Ganguly? She had an affair with Ashwin K Verma for twelve years while he was in his second marriage. Ashwin has two daughters from his previous marriages. She is nothing but a cruel-hearted woman who has done nothing but try to separate me and my sister, his own daughters from their father. He used to live in California and then New Jersey for around 13-14 years before moving to Mumbai. The two have one son, not two. I’m speaking out because she claims all over the media that she has a happy marriage with my dad when in reality she’s controlling and psychotic towards him. Whenever I try to call my father, she starts yelling and screaming death threats to myself and my mother. It’s not fair that she ruined the lives of Ashwin’s real family and has been publicizing that they have a true love marriage when she’s destroyed others to get what she wants.”
Esha further compared Rhea Chakraborty and Late Sushant Singh Rajput’s case, where the former was accused of giving drugs to the actor, with that of her father. “Honestly, she’s conducted acts very similar to what Rhea Chakraborty has done to SSR. She feeds my dad’s strange medications and is very controlling of his life. I am now 22 years old, but she has started this absurd and strange affair with my father from when I was only 3 years old. Can anyone ever imagine how it is to know that your father has left yours to go start it with someone who just wanted his money and power? My life is not the same and I have suffered so many years having the absence of my father… It’s not easy with absence of my father… It’s not easy with seeing happy families stay together, while mine was broken… when my mom had to work two jobs all by herself and provide for both of us.”
The post further gave details about her father’s profession and how Rupali’s acts have destroyed his life too. “My dad was the VP of his marketing division, and all that was taken away from him because of her. I’ve stayed quiet long enough and now that I am finally an adult, managed to graduate college, I think I have the right to speak my story. I am grateful that social media is so accessible to do so, but this isn’t right that just because she is a television star, her false story can be spread to bring more attention and praise to her,” she ended the post.
Esha Verma’s father reacts!
Though no statement has been issued by Rupali yet, her father shared his taken on the matter after the post went viral on social media. Taking to his X handle, he wrote about the reason behind his divorce with Esha’s mother and defended Rupali. “I do have two daughters from previous relationships, something Rupali and I have always been open about that I care a great deal about. I understand that my younger daughter still holds a lot of hurt about the dissolution of her parent’s relationship as divorce is a difficult experience that can greatly affect and harm the children of that marriage. But marriages end for many reasons, and my relationship with my second wife had multiple challenges that led to our separation-challenges that were between she and I and that had nothing to do with any other person. I only want the best for my children and my wife and it saddens me to see anyone being pulled into cycles of negativity by the media,” read the post.
For the unversed, Ashwin K. Mehra was earlier married to Sapna Verma and they have two daughters. After their marriage ended, Ashwin and Rupali tied the knot on February 6, 2013. Rupali and Ashwin are parents to a boy now.

Esha Confirms That Situation Remains The Same
There were doubts about the person’s identity and many questioned if it indeed is from Rupali’s daughters. However, Hindustan Times’ report confirms that it’s indeed her. When the media organisation contacted Esha, who now lives in new Jersy, she talked about the post in detail. “I’ve been seeing it going viral and it’s definitely overwhelming but I’m glad it’s being brought to light”. As far as her relationship with Ruplai is concerned, she said, There’s no relationship between the two of us. She’s just the mother of my brother, and that’s about it.”
The controversial family photo and truth behind it!
Along with Esha’s old post, a picture of her with Rupali and father Ashwin has also been going viral on social media. What’s shocking is that the picture has been posted in 2021, a year after Esha made the accusations. When HT inquired her about the same, she said, “I posted the picture to showcase that I am related to both of them, since neither my father nor Rupali chose to acknowledge me as family, personally nor publicly.”
She further stated that it’s “bare minimum” to meet her father once in 5 years. “My father hasn’t been in my life and left home when I was 8. She following me on Instagram and taking me out to dinner was the bare minimum too. I wanted to post that picture to showcase that he is my father, as I have the right to do so. But he’s never posted me, and it hurts to see that they’re a great, happy family, but he left his other family behind,” she ended.
