The onscreen duo of Amitabh and Dharmendar whose chemistry enhanced the charm of countless movies had a major age gap between them. Often assumed by fans to be of a similar age, it might come as a surprise that there was a significant difference between the two—Dharmendra was nearly eight years older than Amitabh Bachchan. The recent news of Dharmendra’s passing at the age of 89 has left Bollywood and ardent fans in despair. Social media is replete with messages expressing condolences and grief over the actor’s passing.
What Happened to Dharmendra
On 24 November 2025, at the age of 89, Bollywood’s beloved “He-Man” quietly took his final bow, leaving behind a legacy that will live forever. In his last few months, Dharmendra’s health had become a concern for fans and family. He was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital after experiencing respiratory difficulties and breathlessness. Reports suggest that at one point, he was put on life support as well.
Previously, the actor had been hospitalized for muscle strain and back pain. More recently, he underwent a corneal transplant after the cornea of his left eye was damaged and had turned cloudy. In such treatments, doctors surgically remove the damaged cornea and replace it with healthy tissue to restore vision, reduce blurriness, or alleviate pain.
Spotted with a bandage, Dharam Ji was all smiles when interacting with the paparazzi, speaking in his trademark style.
Roots, Humility & Family First
In his real life, Dharmendra remained refreshingly grounded. Born in 1935 in Nasrali, Punjab, he never let fame erase his roots. He worked his way up from modest beginnings, always remembering where he came from. Humility was a core value in his family, and his sons continue to carry forward that same humility in the film industry, just as their father did.
