To play the role of Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, Vicky Kaushal had to train his body, practice action scenes, and learn how to ride a horse.
Actor Vicky Kaushal is getting praise for his role as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the movie Chhaava. The film, directed by Laxman Utekar, is doing well in theaters. The filmmakers have now released a video showing the months of training Vicky went through to prepare for the role.
Vicky’s Training for Chhaava:
On Tuesday, Vicky shared a post on Instagram with Maddock Films, where he talked about the 6 months of preparation for his role. He started with horse riding lessons, which he described as “very tough,” as they also included training with weapons. Vicky was seen practicing action scenes with the team. The actor mentioned, “Every day, I trained for about 6-8 hours.”

Vicky also mentioned that after most training days, he would come home and find new injuries on his body due to all the action training for the film. “The kind of discipline that has come into my life has never been there before,” said Vicky. He was seen training hard even in between scenes, with makeup on his body.
Vicky further said that “One thing was certain that I had to bulk up a lot. I have to gain good muscle mass.” Laxman sir had called Dinu sir and said that he had found his Chhaava.
After the film’s release, Vicky recently visited Babulnath Temple in Mumbai, where Chhaava crossed ₹100 crore in its opening weekend. On Instagram, Vicky thanked his fans for their amazing response and said, “All your messages, calls… all the videos you all are sharing of your experience of watching CHHAAVA… I’m seeing it all… taking it all in. Thank you for all your love… Grateful to each and every one of you for celebrating the glory of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj.”
Chhaava is based on the Marathi novel Chhava by Shivaji Sawant. The movie stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum, Divya Dutta as Soyarabai, Vineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash, and Ashutosh Rana as Hambirrao Mohite.
