On Wednesday, comedian Vir Das shared a post about the debate on what makes good comedy. This comes as comedian Samay Raina and podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia face backlash for a joke on India’s Got Latent. The 45-year-old posted a note on his Instagram stories, criticizing Indian news channels. He also emphasized the need to support new media, saying it gets more views, longer interviews, and a bigger impact than traditional media.

Without Saying Ranveer Allahbadia’s name in his post, Vir said that a ‘good artist will always bow down to his audience and take their feedback to work better in the future.’
In his post he wrote that “The audience is always welcome to debate what good comedy is. A good artist will take their feedback head down, mouth shut, and maybe evolve. Either the way the consequences of your comedy on your career and audience are pretty instant. That’s a natural process”

Comedian Vir Das wrote about the mainstream media which is “bordering extinction”“But we are also watching a bunch of irrelevant mainstream media anchors bordering extinction coming together to take down new media that gets millions more views, longer interviews, and far more impact than their bloated studios and fat salary at 1% of the cost. Whether you like the new media or not is irrelevant (sic).”

Vir Das ended his post by asking people to also judge journalists the way they judge comedians. He added, “That’s ALSO what’s happening here. And while we debate what good comedy is, please debate what good journalism is, and the news that they SHOULD be doing, the questions they SHOULD be asking, and who they should be asking them to (sic).”
Vir das post comes a day after Indias got latent controversy. People are demanding a permanent ban on them and their conetnt online.

Later on, Ranveer Allahbadia posted a video and apologized and confesed that he shouldn’t have made that joke.
