Vidya Balan, known for redefining women centric films in India, is now setting her sights on the global stage. In a candid interview she recently opened up about her desire to work in Hollywood and the roles she’ll be looking out for if she bags an opportunity.
In an interview with Deadline, the Dirty Picture actor revealed the kind of roles she is looking out for, “I’d love to play (a character like) the therapist in Adolescence. That’s on the top of my mind at this point. I would love to do comedy. I absolutely loved Kate Winslet in The Regime. I also love the work Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon are doing,” Vidya said.
Further speaking about her women centric films, Vidya reflected on performances like the single mother in Paa, the mathematician in Shakuntala Devi, and the housewife turned late night RJ in Tumhari Sulu, “In each of these films, there was an opportunity for me to do something different as an actor. They were well fleshed-out characters, and yet they were great scripts and very engaging, entertaining films,” Vidya said.
On the work front, Vidya was last seen alongside Kartik Aaryan, Madhuri Dixit, and Triptii Dimri in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. She also starred in the romantic comedy Do Aur Do Pyaar, directed by Shirsha Guha Thakurta, opposite Pratik Gandhi, also starring Ileana D’Cruz and Sendhil Ramamurthy.
