Vettaiyan Box Office Collection Day 1: Superstar Rajinikanth has returned to the big screen with the action drama ‘Vettaiyan’. The movie has a stellar star cast including Amitabh Bachchan, also marking the Tamil debut of the actor. Big B and Rajinikanth have collaborated on a project after 33 years and also share a close bond. The movie revolves around a retired officer, who has different ways of fighting against the system and clashes with a judge due to his ideologies. According to the website Sacnilk, ‘Vettaiyan’ collected Rs 31.7 crore on its opening day. The movie has its maximum earnings in the Tamil language with Rs 27.75 crore. It was followed by Telugu with Rs 3.3 crore, Hindi with 0.6 crore and Kannada with 0.05 crore.
In an interview with 123 Telugu, director TJ Gnanavel talked about the expectations audiences have for ‘Vettaiyan’. He shared, “After Jailer’s massive success, the expectations on Rajini sir have increased a lot. Vettaiyan will have songs and fights as well. But I didn’t deviate from what I wanted to convey. We have seen films about encounter specialists before, but we have never seen their background stories. Vettaiyan throws light on their thinking process.”
“Thalaivar Rajinikanth is an encounter specialist in the film. What is his stand on encounters and what happens to him is the film’s plot. I cannot change myself completely for Rajini sir. People usually expect a few elements from him, like style and grace. While staying true to the story, I did my best to match Thalaivar’s image and stardom,” he added.
Apart from Rajinikanth and Amitabh Bachchan, the movie has a talented ensemble of stars including Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, Dushara Vijayan and Abhirami in the pivotal roles.
