Veteran Malayalam cinema actor-director Sreenivasan has passed away. Sreenivasan was 69 years old and had been hospitalized for several days due to health reasons. Film industry sources have confirmed the news. A native of Coonoor, he had lived in Kochi for the past few years. He played many outstanding roles in his career. Besides being a prolific actor, Sreenivasan was also a director and writer. Sreenivasan, who appeared in over 200 films, began his career with the film Manimuzhakkam in 1976. Sreenivasan leaves behind a large family along with his cinematic legacy. He has two sons, Vineeth and Dhyan Sreenivasan, both of whom are active in acting.

Sreenivasan received numerous honours in his career, including a National Film Award, two Filmfare Awards South, and six Kerala State Film Awards. He received the Kerala State Film Award for Best Screenplay for “Sandesham” and “Mazhayethum Munpe.” Frequently collaborating with directors Priyadarshan, Sathyan Anthikad, and Kamal, Sreenivasan played a key role in shaping the golden age of Malayalam comedy and social drama. His portrayal of common man characters was characterized by restraint, realism, and subtle satire. He made his acting debut in P.A. Backer’s 1976 film “Manimuzhakkam” and played the lead role in “Sanghanam” in 1979. His formal training at the Tamil Nadu Film and Television Institute in Chennai laid the foundation for a successful career in writing, acting, and directing.
