Veteran actor Asrani has passes away at the age of 84. The news has been confirmed by his nephew, Ashok Asrani. The senior and versatile Hindi cinema actor, Shri Govardhan Asrani, died this evening around 4 PM after a prolonged illness. He was originally from Jaipur, Rajasthan, and completed his education at St. Xavier’s School, Jaipur.
Asrani had been a stalwart in the field of acting and visual comedy; his work has been unparalleled over the decades. Over the years, he gave Hindi cinema many memorable characters and carved a special place in the hearts of the audience. His appearance on the screen sparked joy on the faces of countless.

It was Asrani’s profound capabilities as an actor that led him to take on a wide range of roles. Over the years, he has showcased how versatile his skills were. His complete career spans over a whopping 350 movies. His comedic timing and flair for slapstick humour will surely be missed.
Asrani was once the go-to choice for comedic roles. His career reached its peak in the 1970s when he did iconic movies like Mere Apne, Koshish, Bawarchi, and Chupke Chupke. His portrayal of an eccentric warden that was somewhat inspired by Chaplin’s dictator in the 1975 hit film Sholay still sparks the same joy as it did years ago.
