Ever since Karan Johar went off the air with his tangy talk show, I’ve been missing something equally involving in the star-interview genre. Twinkle Khanna and Kajol Devgan are made for kheech other. They pulled the two Khan superstars’ legs, asked Aamir Khan and Salman Khan the most outrageously improper question, and behaved most improperly.
More power to the two star wives!
Sample: Kajol to Salman Khan: “In your films, why are you the only one showing your chest?”
There was a comfort level among the guests which came from a place of long-term familiarity. The two hostesses are on backslapping terms with Aamir and Salman. The comfort-level converted into cockiness instead of complacency.
The tone, though irreverent and inquisitive, never crossed the line. And where but on this show would we get both Salman and Aamir to sing lines from Kishore Kumar’s Meri bheegi bheegi si and Mukesh’s Kahin dur jab din dhal jaye.
The most remarkable factor in the inaugural episode was the high level of honesty in the conversation. Aamir spoke of his wives, Salman spoke about his neurological condition, and the co-hostesses chatted incessantly, as though they were meeting their old friends over drinks.
The entertainment level of the first episode makes me worried about the future episodes. Would the co-hosts be able to maintain the same level of connectivity and camaraderie with their other guests?
