Confession time. I am getting addicted to Twinkle Khanna and Kajol’s Two Much. Although they share no chemistry, together they generate a whole lot of kinship with their guests. This week it is Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor, not necessarily in that order. One of them was looking swell, while the other one was bitchy, witty, and occasionally wise.
Their presence on the show was troll-free. No way could party-crashers pick on them for improper behaviour. Even when Karan spoke about which ‘side’ he has picked in life, it was never offensive.
There was an air of insouciance about this episode, a mood of anything-can-happen when chaar yaar on the prowl. My favourite moment in the love-means-never-having-to-say-you-are-‘soiree’ zen-counter was when the two guests (we could see how protective one was of the other) recited self-written poems.
Maybe time didn’t stop still. But some such alchemy happened. We often presume the rich and the privileged to be flippant and carefree. Here was Karan Johar and his protégée to prove the naysayers wrong. They were smart and sassy.
Janhvi cut the ice even while doing potentially dunderhead impersonations of Karan Johar at the airport and little poodles in her home.
The editing of this episode was a little careless. One section had Johar speaking about his production Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari in the future tense, while the section where Karan spoke on evolution was no revolution, and Darwin is certainly not clapping.
Whatever the show lacks in the way of a cohesive format, it makes up for by providing a whole lot of fun. Even if the episode was shot long before Diwali, it conveyed the festive mood.
