Trade Talk: Maalik Has A Clear Lead This Week

Maalik stars Rajkummar Rao, Prosenjit Chatterjee and Manushi Chhillar in the lead roles. The movie will release in theatres on July 11, 2025.

Joyful tidings from Rajkummar Rao. With the announcement of his impending fatherhood comes his first ever excursion into action in Maalik.

And the preview buzz is simply kosher.

Apparently, director Pulkit, who earlier gave us the stunning series Bhakshak, has put together a top-notch action drama, with Rajkummar Rao giving another stellar performance. In fact, the producers Jay Shewakramani and Kumar Taurani are rumoured to have signed Rajkummar for another film, assumably a companion piece to Maalik.

Sadly, there is zero-level interest in this week’s other theatre release, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiya. According to cinema manager Kumar Abhishek, Connplex Patna, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiya is a stillborn baby. “Dead on arrival, Sir. Abb aisa hi koi chamatkaar ho jaye toh alag baat hai (if some miracle happens, it is another matter). Right now, Aankhon Ki Gustakhiya is a non-starter. We aren’t even scheduling the film in our theatre.”

The only competition for Maalik is James Gunn’s Superman, which carries excellent reports. But the Superman franchise has never been a screen-stealer in India.
