Ek Chatur Naar, Mannu Kya Karega, Heer Express, Love In Vietnam, Mirai, Demon Slayer, Jugnuma… and this is just the list of Hindi films releasing on 12 September!!

Has the film trade gone crazy? Why would so many small-budgeted films be released on the same Friday, especially when there is already a Telugu sureshot blockbuster, Mirai (dubbed into six other languages), looming large over the box office this Friday.

Trade guru Taran Adarsh analyses the pitfalls of multi-releases. “Releasing multiple films on the same Friday is a common practice, but it comes with both advantages and disadvantages. This Friday, we have several films vying for audience attention – but is the clash really worth it? A clash, more often, hurts mid-range and independent films the most. Viewers do get options across genres, but eventually, word of mouth is what matters most. Mainly, the clash can result in several disadvantages. Multiple releases split the number of screens and showtimes, reducing visibility and potential box-office revenue for all films, especially mid-sized ones. Viewers with limited budgets or time must choose between films, which means one title’s gain is another’s loss. If a film doesn’t perform in the first 3–4 days, it risks being pulled out quickly due to competition waiting in line the following week. Only the strongest performers survive beyond the first weekend. Let’s see how the movies fare this Friday.”
