Tom Cruise is currently basking in the success of his latest film ‘Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning’, which has become a blockbuster worldwide. The superstar is set to achieve another milestone in his career as he will be honoured with the Honorary Oscars at the 16th annual Governors Awards. For the unversed, the Honorary Oscars are given to honour extraordinary distinction in lifetime achievement, exceptional contributions to the state of motion picture arts and sciences, or outstanding service to the Academy.
Janet Yang, Academy President, said in an official statement, “This year’s Governors Awards will celebrate four legendary individuals whose extraordinary careers and commitment to our filmmaking community continue to leave a lasting impact. The Academy’s Board of Governors is honoured to recognise these brilliant artists.”
“Debbie Allen is a trailblazing choreographer and actor, whose work has captivated generations and crossed genres. Tom Cruise’s incredible commitment to our filmmaking community, to the theatrical experience, and to the stunts community has inspired us all. Beloved performer Dolly Parton exemplifies the spirit of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award through her unwavering dedication to charitable efforts. And production designer Wynn Thomas has brought some of the most enduring films to life through a visionary eye and mastery of his craft,” it added.
Tom Cruise will receive this honour alongside choreographer and actor Debbie Allen, and production designer Wynn Thomas. Meanwhile, singer-songwriter Dolly Parton will receive with the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award.
Meanwhile, Tom Cruise earlier expressed his love for India during the promotions of Mission Impossible 8. Recalling his experience in India, he shared, “I feel so much love for India. Amazing country. Amazing people, amazing culture,” he said. “I have to say, the whole experience for me has been etched in my memory. Every single moment. From the moment that I landed, going to the Taj Mahal, to spending time in Mumbai with Anil and all the people at the night of the premiere — I remember every moment quite vividly,” he added.
He added, “I would love to go back to India and make a film there. I love Bollywood films, the skill that it takes you to do what you all do is so natural. I love it when in a scene someone suddenly breaks into a song. I love it. It’s something that I have grown up watching—musicals from different countries. I love Bollywood movies. You can just break out into a song—it’s so beautiful. I love the dancing, singing, the actors. That is such a unique experience and craftsmanship of the actors to be able to sing, dance, and act.”
