Govinda gained the status of a superstar in the 90s era of Bollywood and still has a massive fan following. He has worked in several blockbuster films but ‘Hero No.1’ remains a fan favourite. An old video has surfaced online in which producer Vashu Bhagnani recalled how Govinda came three days late to Switzerland during the shooting of ‘Hero No.1’.
In a conversation with the YouTube channel Reviewron Ronak Kotecha, Vashu talked about the incident and said, “I called him and asked, ‘If you are not going to come, then we will come back.’ He got upset and said I am coming. He landed at 6 am. I went to pick him up at the airport. He sat in the van and we were not talking to each other for 10-15 minutes.”
He added, “Then he says ‘I want to shave’ and I thought where we would find a place that’s open at 6 am. I took him to the petrol pump. We got a basic razor for one euro or something. In the bathroom there, he shaved quickly. At 7:30, he gave the first shot. It was the number 1 song of the film. He finished 70 per cent of the song in one day. He wasn’t there for three days but he finished 70 per cent of it in one day. That’s worth appreciating.”

This was not the first time when Govinda’s punctuality became the topic of discussion. Speaking to Bollywood Bubble, Shakti Kapoor also shared that Govinda would come late to the shoot but now he arrives early. He said, “The one thing that has changed about him over the years is his punctuality. Earlier, he would arrive at 9 pm for a 9 am shift. Now, he arrives at 8:30 am for a 9 a.m. shift.”
He added, “Insecurity aadmi ko kaha se kaha pahucha deti hai. (Insecurity changes people). Now he is very professional and the entire industry knows it.”
Actor Ram Kapoor earlier also talked about an incident where an actor made everyone wait in Switzerland for two days. But he did not take anyone’s name. Speaking on the YouTube channel Let’s Talk With DevnaG, Ram said, “When I started, there were actors who made people wait on set for two days—this happened in Switzerland. A crew of 80 people waited for him for two days. But now, this practice doesn’t exist.”
On the work front, Govinda recently appeared on The Great Indian Kapil Show as a guest.
