Amitabh Bachchan Birthday Special: Megastar Amitabh Bachchan has been working as an actor for 55 years now and is often referred to as the legend of the film industry. His impressive body of work serves as a valuable resource for aspiring actors, offering insights into the craft of acting. However, the actor who is the most respected personality at the moment once became a laughing stock for industry people. As the legend turns 82 today (on October 11), let’s take a look at the dark times that shaped him into the person he is today.
As reported by India Today. Amitabh Bachchan’s co-actor and close friend Rajinikanth recently spoke about his financial struggles and how the actor coped with it. “When Amit ji was producing films he broke into a big loss. He was not even able to pay his watchman. His Juhu home came into Public Bidding. The whole Bollywood was laughing at him… The world will just wait for your downfall,” shared Thalaivar during the audio launch of Vettaiyan.
But that did not broke the actor, instead, he stood up and fought back. “In three years, he did all the ads, KBC earned all the money and bought back three homes along with the Juhu home on the same street. He is such an inspiration. He is 82-years-old, and he is working for 10 hours a day,” added the star actor from South.
Rajinikanth also talked about the privileged background of Amitabh Bachchan and shared how despite all that, he made his identity without any support. “Amitabh ji’s father is a great writer. He could have done anything for the influence he had. But without family influence, he came to a career alone… Once Amitabh ji had a terrible accident. At that time, Indira Gandhi had gone to a conference abroad. When she came to know about the accident, she immediately came to India. Only then did everyone know that Rajiv Gandhi and Amitabh ji had studied together.”
When Big B slept with Rats
Amitabh Bachchan’s journey in this industry has not been easy. But what was more difficult was his entry into films. During a previous interview with Vir Sanghvi for Rediff, the Amitabh recalled, “I came to Bombay with a driving license, and that’s about it. It said if I don’t become an actor, I will drive a cab. I didn’t have a place to stay. I spent many nights on the benches of Marine Drive in the late 1990s,” shared the actor, who came to Mumbai after leaving a very successful job in Calcutta.
Amitabh further revealed that he left all of it to build a different life. “I had left all that because I had a desire to work in the movies. I didn’t have a place to stay. You know there is a limited amount of time you can spend with friends because you’re barging into their house. So I spent a couple of days on Marine Drive benches with some of the largest rats I have seen in my life. The whole intention was to act. They were rough times, but I had landed up, as I said, with my driver’s license and said that if I didn’t make it as an actor, I would ply taxis,” he told Sanghvi.
