The ‘Avatar’ franchise is known for taking viewers to the fictional world of Pandora, where the people of Na’vi live. This world was shown again in Avatar: Fire and Ash, which received an amazing response for its stunning visuals. But do you know who is behind creating this visually stunning world of Pandora? Meet Aashrita Kamath, who hails from Kolkata, India, and has worked as art director in ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’.
According to the official website of Avatar, Aashrita Kamatha oversees the creation of all the elements that together make up the natural side of Pandora.
Her statement read, “This encompasses everything that you could imagine; from individual plants and creatures, to large natural environments. On a daily basis, this translates to making sure that the designers have everything needed to brief our team of artists, and to ensure that the design of various sets is up to date and has addressed any notes from James Cameron. I also look ahead to try and anticipate needs for future scenes and environments, so that we are always prepared.”
Her first job in the film industry was as an art department assistant in the movie ‘West is West’, which was filmed in a village in the North-west of India. According to her IMDb page, she was also seen in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara.
While talking about the memorable experience after seeing Avatar, she revealed, “I remember being so incredibly amazed with the world I saw, that it cemented my interest in the Art Dept and made me hope that someday I would be a part of a project like it!”
Coming back to Avatar 3, the movie is running in theatres. The film is written by James Cameron, Rick Jaffa, and Amanda Silver, with Josh Friedman and Shane Salerno also contributing to the plot. The film marks the third chapter in the Avatar saga, following Avatar (2009) and Avatar: The Way of Water (2022).
