Indian films have a huge popularity among the Pakistani audience. This Telugu movie, starring Rashmika Mandanna, is currently trending at number one in Pakistan despite getting a decent response at the box office. It is none other than ‘The Girlfriend’, which is currently trending at No. 1 on Netflix in Pakistan.
In The Girlfriend, Rashmika has played the role of a naive college student whose life changes for the worse after she gets into a relationship with a fellow student. According to sacnilk, The Girlfriend earned Rs 17.5 crore in India. But it received a good response for its theme and showcased impact of toxic relationships on young women.
Before the film’s release, Rashmika penned a heartfelt note for the team. She wrote on Instagram, “The Girlfriend — Ahhh! Where do I even begin.. When Rahul first narrated this script to me, I remember tearing up.. there were so many moments that pinched my heart in ways I couldn’t explain. I kept thinking.. wait, I know this feeling..I’ve felt this before.. I don’t know how we don’t see these things when it’s all happening.. And what moved me even more was that these words, these emotions, were coming from a man. Things that most people wouldn’t even understand.. he did.. That day, I walked out of our meeting with two things -1- a script I knew would be a sin not to do.. 2- a friend for Life.”

The movie is directed by Rahul Ravindran. Its cinematography is handled by Krishnan Vasant with production design by S Rama Krishna and Monika Nigotre.
Director Ravi Chandran talked about if there is any similarity between Arjun Reddy and The Girlfriend. He told NDTV, “Arjun Reddy is a cult film which was a game breaker in cinema and it’s a much bigger film. My film is not close to it and honestly, this so-called similarity struck me only after the people on social media pointed it out. I actually thought of the story much before Arjun Reddy came about.”
Apart from Rashmika, the movie also stars Anu Emmanuel and Dheekshith Shetty in pivotal roles.
