Dwayne Johnson, who is known as one of the biggest commercial stars in Hollywood, has decided to take a big leap of faith in his career. The actor is gearing up for the release of his upcoming biographical sports drama movie titled ‘The Smashing Machine’, in which he will essay the role of former amateur wrestler and MMA fighter Mark Kerr. The movie was recently premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and won the Silver Lion.
The critics and audience praised Johnson’s performance and were delighted to see him in a new role. Apart from the grand premiere, the makers have unveiled the new trailer of ‘The Smashing Machine’, showcasing more glimpses from the life of Mark Kerr.

Apart from Dwayne Johnson, the movie also stars Emily Blunt, Ryan Bader, Bas Rutten and Oleksandr Usyk in supporting roles. The Smashing Machine is slated to release in theatres on October 3, 2025, and directed by Benny Safdie.
While speaking to Vanity Fair, Dwayne Johnson revealed that working in The Smashing Machine was a completely different experience. He said, “It was very real. I had not experienced that in a very, very, very long time, where I was really scared and thinking, I don’t know if I can do this. Can I do this? I realised that maybe these opportunities weren’t coming my way because I was too scared to explore this stuff.”
For the unversed, the movie received a 15-minute standing ovation at the Venic International Film Festival. In an interview with Net-a-Porter, Emily Blunt praised Johnson and said, “I think this has been life-changing for him.”
“This is a man who’s never allowed to disappear, and it’s so moving for me as his friend, and as an actor, to watch someone discover what they’re capable of,” she added.
Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson worked together in ‘Jungle Cruise’ and are known to share a good friendship behind the scenes.
