Upasana Singh, a well-known television actor famous for her comedic character ‘Bua’ on The Kapil Sharma Show, which was telecast on Colors, gained popularity for her engaging performances. She also appeared in various Punjabi and Hindi films. She was recently in the news due to a disagreement when the show’s comedian moved to a different channel, Sony. Unfortunately, Upasana could not follow him as she had still been under contract with Colors, the channel she was working with at the time.
In a recent interview with Siddharth Kannan, he asked why she hadn’t been seen on the show, she responded: “2.5 saal hamara show no. 1 pr rha, bahut hum logo ne hit show diya, ek time aisa aaya, mujhe krne ke liy kuch tha nhi. Meine Kapil ko bhi bola, mera bahut acha sambandh hai usse, aisa nhi hai hamara kuch jhagda hai. Kuch log sochte hai meine jhagde ke karan chodha hai.” (For 2.5 years, our show was on No. 1, and we gave a lot of hit shows to people, there came a time when I had nothing to do, meaning I started feeling like this. I have a very good relation with him, it is not like that, we have some struggle or fight. Some people think that I left because of the battle.)
She talked about her struggle in the Kapil Sharma show and said, “Maine Kapil ko bola, waisa nahi raha mera role jaisa mere ko maza aata tha krne mei, kabhi mei khadi hu do lines bol rhi hu. Toh meine Kapil ko bola ki tum ab mere character pr dhyaan do.” (I told Kapil that my role is not the same as I used to enjoy playing; sometimes, I stand and say two lines. So I told Kapil that now you should pay attention to my character.)
She later talked about the tension between Colors TV and Kapil and said, “Tb Kapil hero ka try kr rha tha uski films ke liy, toh voh bhi bolta tha mujhe ki mei ek baar inn sab jhanjhato se nikal jaaun toh krunga. Ussi beech mei Kapil ki tension ho gyi colours ke saath, hamara no. 1 pr show chal rha tha tab. Toh mera colours ke saath contract tha aur Kapil ke saath contract nhi tha. Toh yeh, log jab sony pr aaye, toh unhone bola, aapka toh contract hamare (Colors TV) saath hai, aur fr voh krushna wala show laa rhe the. Unhone bola, aap voh kro.” (Then Kapil was trying for a hero for his films; he also told me I would do it once I got out of all these traps. In the meantime, Kapil got tensed with Colours; our show was going on at No. 1 then. I had a contract with Colours but didn’t have a contract with Kapil. So when these people came to Sony, they said they had a contract with us (Colors TV) and that the channel was bringing the Krushna show. They said that you do that.)
She further talked about her discomfort in the Krushna show as well. “Ab voh jo team thi aur Kapil ki team dono alag alag teams thi. Vahan bhi mujhe comfort nhi tha. Kapil and udhar ki team (krushna ki team) mei tension bhi thi.” (Now that team and Kapil’s team were two different teams. I was not comfortable there either. There was tension between Kapil and that team {Krushna’s team}.)
She spoke about the mistreatment they used to do with her and added, “Mei enter kru toh voh bolna band krde, mera koi punchline ho toh voh kaat de, mujhe laga yeh kya ho rha hai. Mei naam nhi lena chaha rhi kisi ka bhi, controversy bhi hui thi ussi waqt jab meine show chodh diya tha sony pr. Meine unko bola, mujhe nhi krna aap logo ka show, mujhe torture ho gya uss jagah pr.” (If I enter, he stops talking; if I have a punchline, he cuts it off; I wonder what is happening. I do not want to take anyone’s name, there was also a controversy at that time when I had left the show on Sony. I told them I did not want to do your show; I felt tortured at that place.)
She concluded the topic and said, “Mujhe pata hota hai ki punchline kya hai aur kaha pr log hasne wale hai and jab mei telecast dekh rhi hu, toh punchline uda di gyi hai. Aisi kahi cheeze ho gyi. Kapil ne bhi bola ki aajao. Pr meine do Punjabi film shuru krdi thi as a producer, Kapil ne voiceover bhi diya hai mere films mei. Kayi cheeze ho gyi pr voh meri satisfaction nhi thi kaam krne ki. Sab bol rhe the paise toh sahi mil rhe the na, kahi baar satisfaction as an artist bhi aapko acha feel hona hai.” (I know what the punchline is and where people are going to laugh and when I am watching the telecast, the punchline is dropped. Many such things happened. Kapil also said to come. But I had started two Punjabi films as a producer, and Kapil has also given voiceovers in my films. Many things happened, but I was not satisfied with the work. Everyone was saying that I was getting the right money; sometimes you also have to feel good about satisfaction as an artist.)
