There is a story going around about the cost of making Housefull 5. According to this story flying around today, Housefull 5 was budgeted at Rs 240 crores.
However an insider, very close to the project has another story together. “Where did this figure (240 crores) come from? Who from the film’s cast and crew ‘leaked’ this budget? It is a completely false amount. The film cost much less to make. Only about 15 per cent of the film was shot on an actual luxury cruiser. The rest was all done on studio sets.”
The insider also poohpoohs the star fees. “Again, who has given out these amounts? Let me tell you, almost all the stories on star fees are cooked up. Nobody knows what an actor actually gets except the producer and the actor.”
The insider describes the amount being credited to Akshay Kumar as “absurd”.
“The truth is, producer Sajid Nadiadwala shared his budgetary woes with his friend Akshay. Most of Nadiadwala’s recent films have underperformed at the box office. He needed a hit and he needed the actors to reduce their market fees. Every actor from Akshay Kumar to Chunky Pandey took a cut, and happily so. There are also reports that Riteish Deshmukh was paid more than Abhishek Bachchan. Abhishek ke itne buure din nahin aaye hain.”
