The Little Mermaid: The live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid has stirred controversy, with RuPaul’s Drag Race alums expressing their displeasure with the makeup artist chosen for the legendary character Ursula. However, Peter King, the makeup artist who worked with actress Melissa McCarthy, is defying the backlash. The Oscar winner addressed the criticism in a recent interview with Insider, calling it “ridiculous” and “very offensive.”
King challenged the notion that his work as a non-queer makeup artist would be inferior, emphasising his strengths, and asking, “Why can’t I do as good a job as a queer makeup artist?”
He expressed his disapproval of criticizing individuals based on their qualifications, stating, “That’s trying to claim it, and that’s fine, if that’s what they want to do, but don’t put people down because they’re not what they want it to be.”
Despite his age, King did not comprehend the criticism, emphasising that a makeup artist’s talents should not be influenced by personal identity.
