The Conjuring: Last Rites has made its impressive presence felt at the Indian box office, giving tough competition to major Bollywood films. The film has continued its impressive performance on its second day as well and looks to be making a mark in India’s box office history.
The Hollywood horror film earned around Rs 17.50 crore net on its second day, which is almost similar to the first day figures. On Friday, the film had earned a total of Rs 17.5 crore, of which Rs 10 crore came from English shows, Rs 6.35 crore from the Hindi version, and Rs 1.15 crore from Tamil and Telugu dubs. With this consistency, the film’s two-day total net collection has now reached Rs 35 crore.
English screenings earned around Rs 20.25 crore of this, while the Hindi version added Rs 12.35 crore, proving the film’s appeal across a wide audience and languages.
Historic Milestone For Hollywood Horror
With a two-day net collection of Rs 35 crore, The Conjuring: Last Rites is now the seventh highest-grossing Hollywood horror film in India, right after Evil Dead Rise (Rs 36.50 crore). The film has reached this milestone in just two days, which is a rare success for Hollywood horror films in India.
The film has also been a hit globally. According to international estimates, The Conjuring: Last Rites has grossed around Rs 125 crore, taking its global gross to around Rs 250 crore.
Towards Rs 50 crore: Weekend forecast
According to analysts, if the film continues at this pace, it could cross the Rs 50 crore mark by its opening weekend. Following this, the film could also challenge The Conjuring 2’s lifetime collection (Rs 61.80 crore). The highest-grossing Hollywood horror film in India right now is Final Destination Bloodlines, which has earned Rs 62.12 crore.
Bollywood films perform poorly
Meanwhile, Bollywood films have failed to pick up the pace. Tiger Shroff’s action film Baaghi 4 earned Rs 12 crore on the first day, but it dropped to just Rs 9 crore on Saturday. In comparison, The Conjuring: Last Rites easily bridged this gap. The Bengal Files also failed to make much of an impact and earned just Rs 3.5 crore.
The Final Chapter: Towards A New Standard For Horror
With excellent word-of-mouth reviews, high occupancy and the thrill of the fact that it is the final installment in the Conjuring Universe, The Conjuring: Last Rites is on its way to setting a new standard for horror films in India. As the film makes its mark at the domestic and international box office, its spectacular performance could mark a watershed moment in the Indian film industry.
