‘Thank You, Beyonce’: Conspiracy Theories That Inspired This Viral Meme

Social media is flooded with reels and memes on Beyonce, where they are seen thanking the musician for every little thing in life.

Thank You Beyonce meme: Lately, social media has been abuzz with ‘Thank You Beyoncé’ reels, with people posting videos of themselves doing daily chores such as dressing up, submitting assignments etc and thanking legendary musician and singer Beyoncé for it. The trend humorously suggests that people fear upsetting Beyoncé and are therefore thanking her for every minor occurrence, no matter how unrelated to her.

How did the trend start?

It started after old clips of international music artistes thanking legendary musician and singer Beyoncé surfaced online. People began to compile the videos and noticed a pattern that everyone who won an honor- big or small- thanked the ‘Crazy In Love’ singer. This led to a conspiracy theory that Beyoncé is one those few people who control the music industry. Moreover, anyone threatening her dominance or forgetting to thank her faces dire consequences.

Among the most viral ones are Adele’s 2017 Grammy clip, where she thanks Beyoncé, describing her as “the artist of my life” after her Grammy win. In the clip, Adele also accidentally breaks her Grammy, which some believed was done intentionally to share with the ‘Crazy In Love’ singer.

Other videos such as that of Lizzo and Jay-Z thanking Beyoncé during their Grammy speeches, are also making rounds. Additionally, Kanye West’s infamous 2009 VMA incident, where he interrupted Taylor Swift and proclaimed Beyoncé’s video as “one of the best of all time,” has resurfaced. Though Kanye faced backlash soon after the incident, fans are now thanking him for saving Taylor Swift’s life and career.

Reason behind its virality now?

The conspiracy theories started floating after Sean “Diddy” Combs’ arrest on September 16 in case of sex trafficking and harassment. Following the event, people were quick to link Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z to Combs as the couple has really been close to him and the three often been spotted together.

The weirdest theory is that of the trio being involved in the death of several well-known names such as Aaliyah, Janis Joplin, Whitney Houston, Left Eye, and Michael Jackson.

Some point to J. Cole’s 2013 song ‘She Knows’ as evidence, interpreting its lyrics as hints about these musicians’ suspicious deaths. People are using this song to create viral reels, fueling speculation and conspiracy theories.

What’s the truth?

However, it’s essential to note that these are fan theories and conspiracies with zero factual basis. None of these claims have been proven and there’s no evidence to substantiate that Beyoncé or Jay-Z control the music industry.

The question remains whether popular singers thank them out of fear of being ostracized from the industry or as a gesture of respect towards a senior artist. Whatever the truth may be, the ‘Thank You Beyoncé’ trend has taken the internet by storm.
