New Delhi: Sidharth Malhotra and Ajay Devgn starrer Thank God fell into legal trouble. The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to hear the plea seeking a stay over its release. A plea was made to the Supreme Court to put a stay on the release of Thank God. It was alleged of making derogatory references to Lord Chitragupta.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Uday Umesh Lalit and Justice Bela M Trivedi listed the plea for hearing on November 1.
Besides, the plea also sought to remove its trailers and posters from social media platforms.
It allegedly contained “derogatory expressions, acts, statements, dialogues and insulting images, videos in and around the character of God Chitragupta”.
For the unversed, a petition was filed by Shree Chitragupta Welfare Trust in Supreme Court seeking a stay on the release of the film.
A petition sought a ban on the release of the film Thank God on theatres, OTT platform.
Earlier, Indra Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and Siddhartha Malhotra have all been named as defendants in a case brought by attorney Himanshu Srivastava in a Jaunpur court. The petitioner claims that the film’s recently released trailer mocks religion and has damaged religious sentiment.
“Chitragupta is regarded as the Lord of Karma and keeps a record of a man’s good and bad deeds. Such depiction of Gods can create an unpleasant situation since it hurts religious sentiments,” the petition said.
