New Delhi: Lalita Lajmi, the sister of late Indian filmmaker Guru Dutt, died at the age of 90. Lalita, a self-taught artist, made a cameo appearance in Aamir Khan’s 2007 film ‘Taare Zameen Par,’ in which the superstar played an art teacher.
The Jehangir Nicholson Art Foundation resorted to social media to communicate the sad news of Lajmi’s death.

It added in the caption of an old photo of Lalita and her creation. “We are profoundly saddened to learn of the death of artist Lalitha Lajmi. Lajmi was a self-taught artist with a passion for classical dance. Her paintings contained elements of sorrow and performance, as shown in ‘Dance of Life and Death,’ one of her works.”

Her initial works were inspired by her own life and observations, whereas her later works represented the hidden tension between man and woman.
Lalita Lajmi’s work was also influenced by Indian films made by her brother Guru Dutt, Satyajit Ray, and Raj Kapoor.
Netizens mourned the demise of Lalita Lajmi and shared heart-touching comments for the veteran. “a lovely human being and sensitive artist … i learnt a lot from lalitha … may she rest in peace,” shared a user. “I went to her exhibition like 3 days ago.. deeply saddened,” commented another.
