Mumbai: Sunny Deol is riding high on the success of his recent release, ‘Gadar 2,’ a sequel to the 2001 hit ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha,’ co-starring Ameesha Patel. With this triumph, speculations have arisen about another sequel from Sunny’s illustrious career, the iconic 1997 war drama ‘Border.’
This news, initially reported by Pinkvilla, has now been confirmed by Sunny himself.
In a candid conversation with Ranveer Allahabadia, Sunny divulged details about ‘Border 2.’ When asked about the ongoing talks regarding the sequel, Sunny chuckled, saying, “Even I have heard!” He reminisced about attempts to initiate the project earlier, recalling a moment in 2015.

However, due to his previous film’s lackluster performance, the project was postponed as potential stakeholders were apprehensive. Today, the scenario has changed, with renewed interest and enthusiasm for the sequel. Sunny expressed his interest in finding a compelling narrative for ‘Border 2.’
The original ‘Border,’ written, produced, and directed by J.P. Dutta, featured a stellar cast including Sunny, Jackie Shroff, Suneil Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, and more. Based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pakistan War, the film achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success, accompanied by a popular soundtrack.
The upcoming ‘Border 2’ will delve into the backdrop of the 1971 India-Pakistan War, exploring an untold tale from that era. According to insiders, discussions about the project have spanned over the past few years. A source close to the project revealed that the team is enthusiastic about bringing this lesser-known historical episode to the silver screen.
The film will be produced by JP Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. While the plot is finalized, the script remains in development. Alongside Sunny, the cast will also include young and emerging actors.
Sunny Deol also disclosed his career plans, emphasizing his focus on acting. He shared his reservations about producing films due to past financial setbacks, which he is keen to avoid in the future.
