Famous songs like Jai Ho, Chhaiya Chhaiya, Kar Har Maidan, Haule Haule, and many more Sukhwinder Singh have given so many chartbuster songs in the Bollywood industry. His pay must be very high as he is the most renowned singer in the industry. But recently the singer revealed that he charges no money for film songs and he took this decision for some personal reason.
“I noticed that a few times back new-generation music directors have this perception that I charge very high. So I decided to charge zero money for film songs,” Shukhwinder Singh
Singh asserts that he’s taken a bold step by returning signed contracts and the agreed-upon fees. “It was only then that people truly understood my intentions, whether the film releases on OTT platforms or in theaters. I returned contracts for six films, ranging from 10 to 11 lakh rupees. While I don’t mind if production houses offer me money, I refuse to accept it. Their legal teams couldn’t technically write ‘zero rupees,’ so I suggested ‘one rupee.’ They chuckled and deemed it unacceptable. So, I quipped, ‘Would two rupees suffice?’
Expanding on his willingness to collaborate with new music directors, Singh reveals his frustration over missed opportunities fueled by rumors about his remuneration demands. “I aspire to learn from fresh talents in music composition and filmmaking; perhaps their narratives and music could be exceptional. However, these rumors about my fees might be deterring them from approaching me. I’ve made it clear: I’m not after money, just a chance to render a good song. Financially secure, I sustain myself through performances in private concerts. It’s contradictory to claim music is my life while monetizing it in film songs. I can only truly absorb from the emerging talent pool once I break through these barriers.”
